Winter driving pushed my home battery more than expected

End-of-year driving definitely changed how my home battery gets used. More like evening charging and colder nights, I noticed the battery working harder than it did earlier in the year. Nothing went wrong and it handled everything fine, but the behavior was different enough to catch my attention.

State of charge dropped faster on certain nights, and recovery took a bit longer when charging overlapped with household use. It wasn’t a problem, just one of those year-end moments where winter quietly shows you how your setup really behaves.

Anyone else find that winter charging habits make their home battery feel more “active” than usual?

I noticed the same drop and slower recovery. At first it felt odd, then I realized it was just overlapping loads and colder temps stacking up. Good reminder that winter usage is a different game.

This is where small scheduling changes can make a big difference. Some people get better results by nudging EV charging later, or raising reserve a bit so the battery isn’t chasing the bottom overnight. Not saying you need to change anything, but winter is when timing matters way more than in summer.
