When the power goes out, what’s your new routine?

I had a power outage recently and it made me realize how much a home battery changes your mindset. The weird part is it’s not even about feeling prepared, it’s that your brain stops treating it like an emergency and starts treating it like weather. I’m curious what your personal first step is now when the power goes out, because I feel like everyone has their own little ritual.

Last weekend the power flickered and then stayed out, and my first thought was honestly coffee. I made it anyway and it felt satisfying because it was such a normal thing to do during something that used to throw the whole house off. Do you check the app right away, do you start turning things off, or do you just keep living like nothing happened?

I used to panic and start flipping switches, now I try to be boring about it. Quick app check, confirm the essentials are covered, then I leave the house routine mostly alone unless it’s clearly going to be a long outage. Hoping by the end of 2026 I’m fully in the “weather” mindset too.

My default checklist is simple. Confirm the outage is real, confirm the system is on battery, then pick a target runtime in my head. Once that’s set, I stop fiddling and let the system do its job.

I’m an app checker haha. even though I trust the system, I always pull up the app to see what the current house draw is
if I see it’s over 3kW, I’ll go around and play energy detective to see what’s running. I don't necessarily turn things off to save power, I just like knowing exactly how many hours of normal life I have left
