Winter charging patterns got me thinking about 2026 battery tweaks

End-of-year driving and colder nights pushed my home battery a bit harder than usual, and it finally made me notice some patterns I’d ignored all year. State of charge dipped faster on nights when EV charging overlapped with normal evening loads, and recovery took longer than I expected.

Nothing failed and the system handled it fine, but it was enough of a wake-up call. Going into 2026, I’m thinking about experimenting with a few settings and charging habits to see if I can smooth things out in winter instead of just letting it ride. Anyone else planning small battery tweaks or experiments next year after noticing winter behavior?

Winter charging really brings those overlaps into focus. When EV charging lines up with evening loads, the patterns become hard to ignore. Did you notice it more on particularly cold nights or just anytime charging overlapped?

My 2026 winter experiment is bumping reserve up a bit on cold weeks so it doesn’t hit that uncomfortable low overnight. It’s not as “efficient” but it feels more predictable.
