What do you check monthly vs seasonally on your home battery setup?

We’re a few days into February 2026, and I’m curious what routines people follow to keep their home battery setup working the way they think it is. A lot of expectations get reset after the first few months, and the folks who seem happiest are the ones who check a few key metrics regularly without obsessing.

If you had to recommend a simple routine to a new member, what would you tell them to review monthly, and what would you tell them to revisit when seasons change? And which metrics do you personally find most trustworthy for planning, like average daily load, worst-day load, solar variability, or actual backup runtime during an outage test.

Bonus question, what’s the one setting you double-check after any major change, like a new appliance, HVAC changes, or a different utility rate plan. Those real-life planning tips are gold for new owners.

Monthly I check for firmware updates, any comms dropouts, and make sure the battery actually hits full occasionally if that’s expected for the chemistry. Seasonally I clean/inspect vents and make sure the temp environment hasn’t changed, plus I do a quick transfer test to confirm the switch still feels clean. After any major appliance change I double-check backup load list and the inverter low-voltage and peak power limits so I don’t get surprise shutdowns.
