Fridge compressor startup vs inverter sizing, what is the safe rule of thumb?

I’m trying to learn the basics of inverter sizing and I’m excited that my setup works, but the fridge startup issue makes me nervous. I thought my loads were well within the limits, then the inverter alarms when the compressor kicks on and it makes me question my entire plan. I do not want to keep guessing, I want a simple way to think about continuous draw versus startup surge without getting lost in spreadsheets.

This weekend I watched the system handle lights and small devices smoothly and it was honestly satisfying seeing it behave the way it should. Then the fridge started and the alarm happened again and I realized this is the one piece I do not understand. For people running fridges on backup, what inverter size margin worked for you, and did you solve it by upsizing, changing settings, soft start options, or just keeping the fridge on a different circuit?

A lot of people solve this by either giving the inverter more headroom, shortening or upsizing the DC cables, or using a soft start on the fridge compressor if it is compatible. Some inverters also have surge or low voltage settings that are a little too sensitive for motor starts in winter.
