battery backup system ideas

My pops lives in a very cold area, and somehow he uses around 60KWh/ day for the whole house. we talked about getting a battery backup system to run my whole house for at least a day, in case there is a power outage
I'm thinking about something that can be charged with grid power or with a generator, and that can swap to battery power automatically if there's a power outage
thinking about charging the batteries with wind and solar, and maybe send excess to the grid, but I dont understand how any of that works
is this possible? any advice or ideas for this, guys? thanks

Charging from both grid and generator is doable with the right hybrid inverter. Adding wind or solar makes it more complex but also more efficient long term. What kind of outages are you preparing for? is it like for short-term or multi-day?

gosh, your energy usage is as high as the sky. you should consider an energy audit, it might reveal opportunities to improve insulation or upgrade appliances. you can also reduce the size of the required battery and generation system

I’ve been learning this stuff the hard way too. You can do grid charging, generator charging, auto transfer, all that but building a setup for a whole day at sixty kWh is no joke. You’re basically speccing a small off-grid cabin system for a full-size house. Does he really need the whole house backed up or just the parts he can’t live without in the cold?

Mack, I think you need a Hybrid Inverter System. This type of inverter manages all those inputs and contains the necessary Automatic Transfer Switch logic to make the switch seamless during an outage
