What made your backup setup feel simple, lithium ion or lead acid?

I’m curious what made people feel truly settled with their home backup setup. I’ve noticed the biggest benefit isn’t just having power, it’s the confidence that you don’t have to babysit the system all the time.

This week we had a quick brownout in the middle of the day and I realized I didn’t even panic. Everything important stayed running and it was honestly satisfying to see the system handle it quietly. Now I’m thinking more about long term livability, not just specs.

If you had to choose again, what battery type would you pick for the least hassle? Lithium ion or lead acid, and what made it feel easy or annoying in daily life?

I switched to LiFePO4 and never looked back. The biggest reason for me is the lack of maintenance
Lithium doesn't care if it sits at 50% for a week, and it’s basically a black box you can ignore for 10 years

I like how you described being settled. That’s what I want too, not just numbers. Lithium ion seems easiest day to day because you’re not constantly thinking about keeping it happy, but I still respect lead acid for simple and proven if you’re okay with the routine. When you say least hassle, do you mean maintenance time, space and weight, or just not thinking about it during outages.

the peace of mind is worth every penny! If I had to choose again, I’d go LiFePO4 every time. you don't have to worry about sulfation or checking water levels. I love that I can drain it to 10% without damaging it, whereas lead-acid starts dying if you go below 50%. It’s truly set and forget

A quick way to pick is to ask what you hate more. If you hate babysitting, weight, and capacity fading when you actually need it, lithium usually wins. If you hate upfront cost and you’re okay designing around gentle cycles and regular checks, lead acid can be a reasonable “set it up and respect its limits” option.
