Thinking of grabbing a 48V Renogy Rover MPPT. I saw a video saying these chargers lock onto whatever voltage you first hook them up to, even though they support 12V–48V. Just wondering if that's actually the case? I am thinking of changing from 24V to 48V. Would be great to confirm before I commit, you know. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, it hooks up to the voltage it detects initially and goes with thish, which is you should connect the battery first and then the panels. The great thing is you can change the voltage later if needed.

If a charge controller locks to the first voltage it's connected to, that's just lazy engineering masked as a "feature." For a premium brand like Renogy, you'd expect true multi-voltage flexibility not a one-shot commitment
