Looking to install a battery backup system for the home and not sure how to go about it or what equipment to choose. Would like automatic transfer switch but not sure what type/brand. I checked the service meter and averaged 3.64kWh of consumption and that projected to a yearly total was pretty close to the total usage from last year according to the power company. Would like to have the option to run everything for 24 hours, but AC/Water Heater/Dryer don't need to be mission critical. Not adding a solar panel system any time soon as we hope to move in 2 years or less. But would like a fairly easy system to take down and move with us. Do have a 5500W gas generator to recharge batteries if needed. Would like to be able to handle a larger load and add solar down the line. Not trying to break the bank but not penny pinching either. Please help.

Afaik, the automatic transfer switch usually requires expensive hardwiring into your main electrical panel. How about using a large portable power station? You can plug your gas generator straight into them for a fast recharge when the batteries get low. It will be easier for you to take it down and move it with you.
